What it tastes like.

Punt e Mes offers very bitter flavours similar to Campari.

Best consumed in cocktails that require some bitterness and spice to balance sweetness, or with ice and soda before dinner.

The house

About Carpano.

Turin, Piedmont Β·Est. 1786

The Turin house where vermouth was invented. Antonio Benedetto Carpano first blended it in 1786, and Antica Formula still follows his recipe.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Carpano

Turin, Piedmont

Antonio Benedetto Carpano was a distiller in Turin who, in 1786, took white wine and added an infusion of herbs and spices built on wormwood. In doing so he invented modern vermouth β€” and with it the whole idea of the aperitivo. He worked from a shop near the Royal Palace and sent a basket to King Vittorio Amedeo III, who liked it enough to take it up at court. Demand grew so quickly that the shop ended up open around the clock.

Antica Formula is still made to that original recipe, and it tastes like nothing else on the shelf: dark and thick, heavy with saffron, dried fruit and vanilla over a firm bitter edge. Punt e Mes is the house's other classic, a more bitter style whose name is Piedmontese for "a point and a half". Both are made today by Fratelli Branca in Milan.
