Castillo de Albai is the entry-level Rioja from Pagos del Rey, a well-respected Spanish wine group with vineyards across the country's major regions. The Tempranillo Joven is an unwooded, drink-young style of Rioja — the daily-drinking expression of Spain's most famous red grape, made with fresh red fruit rather than the oak-driven character of the Reserva and Gran Reserva styles.
The 2021 vintage was cool and balanced in Rioja. Expect a bright cherry-red colour with vibrant violet highlights, and an open, fruit-forward nose of red berry, ripe strawberry and a touch of stone fruit. The palate is soft, juicy and easy-drinking, with no oak influence to mask the freshness — a long, clean, persistent finish.
