What it tastes like.

Arcane Traditional Rum Arrangé Ananas Roti (Roasted Pineapple) could almost be a dessert. The pastry notes that compose it give it a surprising complexity, complemented by the sweetness of the pineapple and its freshness.

About Arcane.

Arcane is a Mauritian rum brand whose ArrangΓ© and aged expressions are produced at Gray's distillery on Mauritius β€” the brand sits in the lighter, French-influenced Indian Ocean rum tradition rather than the heavier English-style Caribbean rums. The range covers Mauritian rum aged in former whisky casks (Beach House, Turquoise Bay) and longer-aged Solera-style expressions (Extraroma). The brand prioritises Mauritian sugarcane provenance over distillery-of-origin specificity, sourcing across Mauritius's mid-tier production base.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Arcane

Indian Ocean (production at Gray's, Mauritius)

Mauritius sits between East Africa and Madagascar in the Indian Ocean - outside the standard Caribbean rum map but with a sugar-cane history that runs back to Dutch colonial planting in the 1600s. Arcane is one of the more interesting rum houses to come out of that tradition: small-batch, Coffey-distilled from molasses (with a few cane-juice expressions in the range), aged in tropical conditions on the island. The brand was founded in 2014 by an Indian Ocean rum specialist with a stated brief to put Mauritius on the same shelf as the Caribbean's marquee houses.

The portfolio is unusually wide for a single house. The line covers white rums for cocktail work, single-cask aged expressions, vintage releases with verifiable distillation dates, and finishing experiments that lean closer to single-malt logic - short-runs aged in ex-Cognac, ex-PX, ex-Sauternes casks. Bottling strengths run from working 40% through cask-strength single-cask releases above 60%. Thirteen active SKUs cover the full breadth of the range, one of the deepest non-Caribbean rum lines you'll find outside the islands themselves.

Drink the Beach House and Turquoise Bay as cocktail rums - both sit comfortably in a Daiquiri or a long drink. The Extraroma Solera reads closer to a sweeter, after-dinner sipper. The cask-strength single-cask bottles deserve neat pours and time in the glass; the ex-Sauternes and ex-PX finishes show the cleanest tropical-to-fortified-wine transitions on the shelf. A useful reference point if you want Indian Ocean rum or a non-French-Caribbean voice in a tasting flight.
