This special pre-release Petit a is drawn from the 2018 vintage, which boasted excellent fruit quality—a great sign for a wine that’s made to show the whole character of the vineyard (around a firm backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon, naturally). With three years in both oak and bottle already, it’s one that’ll really stretch its legs with some serious cellar time—lay it down for a future special occasion, and reap the rewards.
Domaine A Petit a is an assemblage of classic Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand from old estate vines. Typically, veraison will happen in February and picking in mid-April.
Petit a is crafted in small batches employing traditional techniques including open vat fermentation, regular racking and hand plunging.
This wine is one of the last years of Peter Althaus producing Domaine A wines before Conor van der Reest and David Walsh took over winemaking and ownership respectively.
