What it tastes like.

Made from one hectare of old vines located above the village further north of the domaine and its main vineyards of Coteau de la Biche in the vallee de Nouys. Just 13 gms/litre of residual sugar. Beautifully intense and fine with great length. Demi-sec Vouvray is, after sparkling Vouvray, the most popular wine of the appellation and perhaps the most typical showing chenin blanc at it most perfumed and expressive with just delicate sweetness balancing the lively acidity and giving great length and also ageing capacity to the wines. Demi-sec wines tasted at the domaine going back into the 1950’s are simply a revelation and among the great wines we will taste in any year. The wine is so versatile with so many foods and also so delicious as a lip smacking aperitif there really is no excuse for this wine not being in every cellar and every fridge - the only limitation being that just 2400 bottles were produced in 2020..!!
2022 not yet reviewed - the following review for 2020 vintage
”From a single-hectare parcel, the 2020 Demi-Sec Clos Berger presents a fine, floral nose. Fermented in stainless steel, preserving the bright pineapple and pear fruit. Easy to like and to drink. Pure, fresh and fruit-forward. Lovely balance and freshness despite the sweetness. Youthful but already drinking well.” Vinous Media, March 2021

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine Pichot

Loire

"The Pichot family has owned Vouvray vineyards since 1770, when they purchased Coteau de la Biche to supply the family restaurant. The current Domaine Pichot was formed in 1996, uniting the three historic family parcels — Coteau de la Biche, Le Peu de la Moriette and Le Marigny — under a single label run by Jean-Claude Pichot. His son Christophe purchased a further 8 hectares in Le Marigny, in the Clos Cartaud, in 1984; those vines are now around 75 years old.
