What it tastes like.

Made from 45-75 year old vines located above the village adjoining Clos Saint Mathurin not far from the Vallee de Nouys where the Pichot family and winery are located. Shows exceptional intensity and old vine depth and wonderful texture and richness balanced by 3 gms residual sugar with refreshing balanced acidity. Stunning. Only made in the very best years when Christophe feels the balance is perfect. This is a tiny cuvee of just 3000 bottles maximum made almost exclusively for the Australian market and vinified and aged in a brand new small stainless steel vat.

2022 not yet reviewed - the following review for 2020 vintage
”Hand-harvested from two hectares of vines that are 45-50 years old, and wild-fermented in stainless steel. The 2020 Vouvray Sec Clos Cartaud is bottled relatively early to capture the fresh fruit aromas and freshness. There's clay-limestone on the site, and the clay component gives the easy roundness in this wine. Fine, bright freshness on the finish makes your mouth water. Drinking well already despite its youth.” 89 points, Vinous Media, March 2021

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine Pichot

Loire

"The Pichot family has owned Vouvray vineyards since 1770, when they purchased Coteau de la Biche to supply the family restaurant. The current Domaine Pichot was formed in 1996, uniting the three historic family parcels — Coteau de la Biche, Le Peu de la Moriette and Le Marigny — under a single label run by Jean-Claude Pichot. His son Christophe purchased a further 8 hectares in Le Marigny, in the Clos Cartaud, in 1984; those vines are now around 75 years old.
