Producer profile

Tequilera La Cofradรญa was founded in 1970 in Jalisco, Mexico, on the outskirts of the town of Tequila and on the slopes of the Tequila Volcano โ€” both within the Tequila DOC zone. The distillery has been family-run for over 50 years. La Cofradรญa operates a traditional production model: stone-lined brick ovens (hornos) for slow-cooking the agave hearts, milling in tahonas/molinos, natural fermentation without added yeasts, and double distillation in stainless-steel pot stills with copper tubing. The volcano-slope location gives the distillery direct access to the rich blue-agave fields of the Tequila highlands.

Beyond its own La Cofradรญa brand, the distillery serves as the contract-production site for several third-party tequila brands โ€” Casa Noble and Clase Azul (a separately-profiled producer in this catalogue) both have their tequila distilled at La Cofradรญa under its NOM 1137 designation. The own-label La Cofradรญa range is distinguished by hand-painted ceramic decanters, with the distillery's on-site Tradiciรณn Mazahua connection mirroring Clase Azul's. The distillery hosts the Museo de Sitio del Tequila and the cavernous La Taberna del Cofrade restaurant for visitors.
