Caravan buyer note

100% Malbec from the Verhaeghe family's purchased fruit grown on the first and second terraces close to the Lot River, farmed organically without certification — the estate banned pesticides over two decades ago. Fully destemmed and crushed with a 3-4 day cold soak to extract colour and gentle tannin, then pressed and cool-fermented in stainless steel before maturing in concrete tanks for 6-8 months — no oak. The result shows the soft, juicy side of Malbec: bright red cherry and plum fruit, soft tannins and sprightly, refreshing acidity. Vibrant, youthful and versatile — a transparent, charming interpretation of Southwest French Malbec, distinctly fresher than its Argentine counterpart.

The house

About Château du Cèdre.

Château du Cèdre is a Cahors estate at Vire-sur-Lot in south-west France, run by brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe. The estate works around 27 hectares of Malbec — the variety locally called Côt or Auxerrois, and the dominant red of Cahors AOC since the appellation was established in 1971.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

"The Verhaeghe family has worked the Château du Cèdre estate at Vire-sur-Lot in the Cahors AOC zone since 1956. Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe took over from their father and have driven the estate's reputation as one of the well-regarded Cahors producers, with Malbec planted on alluvial gravel terraces along the Lot river.
