What it tastes like.

The 2023 growing season parallels 2022 in terms of a warm and dry summer, with heat waves inflicting stress on younger vines with shallower roots. Picking commenced on September 1 with regard to Gamay. Tentatively, winemakers express more confidence about this vintage than 2022, as the heat was less intense.

Metrat started harvest on 6th September and there was a little rain on 11-12 September to freshen the vineyards with the overall sensation of ripe well-balanced wines that are showing well already.

From vines aged more than 80 years old facing full south on sandy granitic soil. This vineyard in the lieu-dit of Cote Rotie is located higher on the slope than the Fleurie holdings of Metrat and vinification is made all in cement tanks with indigenous yeasts. Rich cherry and red fruit aromas with a touch of aniseed and exotic spices. Fresh full and deep palate backed by fine silky tannins. This cuvee was named after the lieu-dit Cote Rotie until a large producer from the northern Rhone launch legal proceedings around the use of the name Cote Rotie necessitating the change of name to Scandaleuses.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.
