Birra Ichnusa was founded in 1912 in Assemini in southern Sardinia, by Amsicora Capra. Sardinia's ancient Greek name was Ichnusa (""footprint""), the shape of the island as the Greeks saw it on a Mediterranean map. The brewery is the only major brewery still operating on the island and produces a clean, light Italian-style lager that is a near-ubiquitous draught beer in Sardinian bars and restaurants.
