Caravan buyer note

A blend of several terroirs across the Marsannay appellation from vines over 40 years old, hand-harvested and 100% destemmed. After a 4-5 day pre-fermentation cold maceration, the must is gently warmed to activate indigenous yeasts for a soft, controlled fermentation with frequent pump-overs to preserve fruit and freshness. Matured for 10 months, split evenly between stainless steel tank and French oak barrel. The nose offers jammy red fruit, strawberry and raspberry, with a light vanilla note from the oak. The palate is structured and persistent with sustained fruity character, silky tannins and a fresh, well-balanced finish. Ageing potential of 5 to 7 years depending on the vintage.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine Collotte

Burgundy, Marsannay

Marsannay-la-Côte sits at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, just south of Dijon. Marsannay was the most recent village to gain its own AOC (1987), and the appellation produces red, white and rosé — unusually for Burgundy, all three colours are permitted under the Marsannay label.

Domaine Collotte works around 14 hectares, with Marsannay parcels at the core of the holdings and complementary parcels in Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin (including 1er Cru Les Champeaux and Les Combottes) and Chambolle-Musigny. Philippe Collotte and his daughter Isabelle run the estate; the wines are vinified traditionally with mostly de-stemmed fruit and a measured oak regime.
