About A.

Tasmania (Coal River Valley — Stoney Vineyard ·Est. 1973

Domaine A is a Tasmanian estate built around the Stoney Vineyard, the oldest vineyard in the Coal River Valley — first planted in 1973 by George and Priscilla Park. Swiss former-IBM-executive Peter Althaus and his wife Ruth acquired the property in 1989 and developed it into Domaine A, with the Cabernet Sauvignon-led Stoney Vineyard becoming a fixture on the Langtons Classification. David Walsh of Moorilla acquired the estate in 2018.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine A

Tasmania (Coal River Valley — Stoney Vineyard, Campania)

The Stoney Vineyard at Campania in Tasmania's Coal River Valley was first planted in 1973 by George and Priscilla Park, making it the oldest vineyard in the Coal River Valley. In 1989, Swiss couple Peter and Ruth Althaus — Peter a former senior IBM executive — acquired the vineyard after an international search for cool-climate Cabernet terroir, and expanded the plantings through 1990. The Althauses developed the Domaine A label, building the estate's international reputation across the 1990s and 2000s. In 2018 they sold Domaine A to David Walsh (proprietor of Moorilla, the Hobart estate adjacent to the Mona art museum).

The estate's headline wine, the Stoney Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, is a 90% Cabernet blend with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot — a Bordeaux-pattern red made cool-climate with Tasmanian acidity. The wine has been continuously included in the Langtons Classification of Australian Wine for years. The Domaine A Sauvignon Blanc has been cited by Australian wine critics as one of the country's most distinctive Sauvignon expressions; Lady A is a Sauvignon Blanc reserve cuvée.
