Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine Charvin

RhΓ΄ne Β· ChΓ’teauneuf-du-Pape

The Charvin family has owned this small estate in the northern sector of ChΓ’teauneuf-du-Pape since 1851. Laurent Charvin has run it since 1990 and farms twenty-eight hectares in all: eight to ten hectares of ChΓ’teauneuf-du-Pape, a block of CΓ΄tes du RhΓ΄ne whose vines border the ChΓ’teauneuf appellation directly, and a couple of hectares of Vin de Pays.

The average age of the vineyards is over fifty years, the oldest approaching eighty. Laurent describes his sites as cool for the appellation, most of the vines being planted on sandy north-facing slopes, and the wines carry that signature: Grenache-based, around 80 per cent for each cuvée with small amounts of Vaccarèse and Mourvèdre, finely drawn rather than broad, with depth but no heaviness. The Côtes du Rhône adds a little Carignan and Bourboulenc.

There is no trick to it. Whole bunches are fermented in large concrete vats with nothing de-stemmed, and the wines are aged eighteen months in concrete and bottled without fining or filtration. No wood is used at any stage for either red. Old vines, very low yields and minimal intervention are the whole method. The vineyards are certified organic. Production is about 2,500 dozen of ChΓ’teauneuf-du-Pape, 4,000 dozen of CΓ΄tes du RhΓ΄ne and a thousand of other cuvΓ©es.
