The Gras brothers began selling their family's anisette in 1872, in Algiers, and the recipe has not changed since. It is built on badiane — star anise — with no colouring and nothing added.

The thing to know is what it isn't. Pastis leans on liquorice root; Floranis contains none, which is why it stays crystal clear and tastes cleaner and sharper than a pastis does. Pour it over ice, add water and drink it as they do in the south of France.
