What it tastes like.

2019 Gigondas La Louisiane
80% Grenache (1942), 15% Mourvèdre (1977), 5% Syrah and Cinsault (1951) fermented on skins for 6 weeks before ageing in large old 50 hL oak foudres for 12 months bottling un-fined and unfiltered.
”I think the standout of the three Gigondas is the 2019 Gigondas La Louisiane. This ripe, exotic, yet incredibly pure Gigondas offers incredible character and depth with no sensation of weight or heaviness. Wild strawberries, blueberries, mint, peppery herbs, and garrigue are just some of the nuances, and it has silky tannins and a full-bodied, powerful style that will evolve for 10-15 years.” 97 points, Jeb Dunnuck, January 2022
”The 2019 Gigondas La Louisiane hails from a south-facing slope of clay and sand and is a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah and Cinsault, all aged in foudre. Loaded with black cherries and mixed berries, it's a big, full-bodied effort that drinks surprisingly well already yet has the concentration, length and structure that should enable it to age another 15 years or more.” (94-96) points, The Wine Advocate, April 2021

About Saint Damien.

Rhône ·Est. 1821

Domaine Saint Damien is a 45-hectare Gigondas estate run by Joël and Romain Saurel, the fourth and fifth generations of the Saurel family on the property. The estate took its current name in 1979, after a chapel that once stood near the cellar.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Domaine Saint Damien

Rhône

"The Saurel family has farmed vines on this property in Gigondas since 1821. The current name was adopted in 1979, taking it from a chapel that once stood near the cellars. Joël Saurel returned to the estate in 1996 and brought in Philippe Cambie as consulting winemaker in 1998. His son Romain has progressively taken on winemaking duties.
