What it tastes like.

Allandale is a Hunter Valley pioneer, established in 1977 by the Mac Davies family and known for honest, terroir-driven wines from the region's classic varieties — Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. The Hunter is one of the world's older Chardonnay regions, with a softer, fuller, fruit-driven style that contrasts with the cooler-climate Australian benchmarks.

The 2022 vintage was kinder than the previous few in the Hunter. Expect a pale-to-medium gold colour and a generous nose of white peach, ripe stone fruit and toasted coconut, with a brush of cashew and vanilla from gentle oak handling. The palate is rounded and approachable, with peach and citrus flavours and a balanced, clean acid line carrying to a citrus-tinged close.

A reliable, drink-now Chardonnay — pair with grilled chicken, prawns, creamy seafood pasta or roasted vegetables. 13.5% ABV. 750ml.

The house

About Allandale.

Allandale Winery is a Hunter Valley estate at Lovedale, north of Cessnock, established in the 1970s. The winery works the traditional Hunter Valley varieties — Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho — alongside reds from contracted vineyards in cooler New South Wales regions.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Allandale Winery

New South Wales

"Allandale is one of the older Hunter Valley wineries, established at Lovedale in the early 1970s and producing through the modern revival of the Hunter as a wine-tourism destination. Hunter Valley sits north of Sydney in New South Wales and is recognised principally for low-alcohol, lemon-lime Semillon — a style that ages remarkably well — alongside richly flavoured Shiraz.
