What it tastes like.

Aperitivo Luxardo is the result of a well balanced infusion of herbs, roots and citrus. Its mild alcoholic content grants an ideal mix with several fruit juices, wines and Prosecco.

About Luxardo.

Veneto (Torreglia, Padua) ·Est. 1821

Girolamo Luxardo founded the firm in 1821 in Zadar, then in the Kingdom of Dalmatia, where his wife Maria Canevari had been making rosolio maraschino for the family. The Maraschino liqueur built the house's name; within eight years the Austro-Hungarian Emperor recognised it as a superior product. In 1947, after WWII reduced the Zadar facility to rubble, Giorgio Luxardo relocated production to Torreglia in the Veneto, near Padua, where the company has remained for six generations.

Bottle questions

Before you open it.

A few practical answers for storage, delivery, and choosing the right bottle.

How should I store it before opening?

Keep it somewhere cool, dark, and steady. Wine prefers cellar temperature; spirits are happier away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will it keep once opened?

Wine changes quickly after opening; spirits and liqueurs generally hold longer if capped tightly and kept out of heat. If it is a special bottle, ask before opening and the team can give product-specific guidance.

Can I ask for a similar bottle?

Yes. Contact Caravan with this bottle name and the occasion; the team can suggest a close match, a safer gift, or a step up or down in price.

How is it packed for delivery?

Orders are packed in bottle-safe cartons. If anything arrives damaged or looks wrong, contact the team with your order number and a photo so they can sort the next step.

What about hot weather shipping?

The team avoids making one-size-fits-all promises around heat and carrier timing. For heat-sensitive or cellar bottles, contact Caravan before ordering and they can advise the safest dispatch window.

Why Caravan backs Luxardo

Veneto (Torreglia, Padua)

Girolamo Luxardo founded the distillery in 1821 in Zadar (then Zara, in the Kingdom of Dalmatia, now Croatia), where Maria Canevari Luxardo had been producing rosolio maraschino domestically. The Maraschino — a clear cherry-stone-and-flesh liqueur distilled from Dalmatian marasca cherries — became the company's signature. Recognition came quickly: within eight years, the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Francis I officially recognised the Luxardo Maraschino as a superior product. The firm grew through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with Maraschino as its anchor.

The Zadar facility was destroyed during WWII and the Luxardo family lost members in the Italian-Yugoslav transition. In 1947, Giorgio Luxardo relocated to Torreglia, in the Euganean Hills near Padua, with — according to the family's account — a sapling of marasca cherry tree and a copy of the original Maraschino recipe. The current portfolio still anchors on the Maraschino, plus the older spice-and-cochineal Alkermes, Sambuca dei Cesari, Amaro Abano (a herbal amaro), Sangue Morlacco (a sweetened cherry liqueur), Slivovitz, Fernet, and the cherry-in-syrup product range that became globally recognised in cocktail bars from the 1990s onward. The sixth generation of the family now runs the company.
